"Kicking Menopause Symptoms to the Curb with Reflexology"

There is a stigma surrounding menopause that can make it a difficult and isolating experience for many women. I don't speak from experience ( I haven't gone thru it yet!) , but I do know some women who have.


Menopause has historically been viewed as a taboo subject, and many women feel embarrassed or ashamed to talk about their symptoms or seek help.

Some common misconceptions and stigmas surrounding menopause include the following:

  1. Menopause is a sign of aging and a loss of femininity: Menopause is a natural biological process that all women go through, and it is not a sign of aging or a loss of femininity. Women should not feel ashamed or embarrassed about going through menopause.

  2. Menopause is a negative experience: While menopause can be a challenging experience for many women, it is important to recognize that it is a natural transition and not inherently negative. Many women report feeling a sense of freedom and empowerment after going through menopause.

  3. Menopause is a private matter: Because of the stigma surrounding menopause, many women feel that it is a private matter and do not feel comfortable discussing it with others. However, seeking support and guidance from healthcare providers, friends, and family can be helpful in managing menopause symptoms and improving overall wellbeing.

It is important to break down the stigma surrounding menopause and to promote open and honest conversations about this natural process. By reducing the shame and embarrassment associated with menopause, women can feel more empowered to seek help and support, and to embrace this new phase of their lives with confidence and vitality.


That's not all, then there are the physical ailments that go along with menopause.

The symptoms of menopause can vary from woman to woman and can be mild to severe. Some common symptoms include:

  1. Hot flashes: A sudden feeling of heat, sometimes accompanied by sweating and flushing of the skin.

  2. Night sweats: Hot flashes that occur during sleep, often causing waking up and difficulty sleeping.

  3. Vaginal dryness: Decreased production of estrogen can cause the vaginal tissues to become dry, which can result in discomfort, itching, and painful intercourse.

  4. Mood changes: Menopause can cause mood swings, irritability, anxiety, and depression.

  5. Sleep disturbances: Changes in hormone levels can cause difficulty sleeping and insomnia.

  6. Loss of libido: Decreased estrogen levels can lead to a decreased sex drive.

  7. Fatigue: Many women experience fatigue during menopause.

  8. Memory problems: Some women experience memory problems or difficulty concentrating.

  9. Urinary problems: Menopause can cause urinary incontinence or increased urinary tract infections.

There are many modalities that can help with menopause but I will only speak of Reflexology because it is what I do and what my clients enjoy.


Reflexology is a complementary therapy that involves applying pressure to specific points on the feet, hands, or ears to stimulate the body's natural healing mechanisms. Reflexology may be helpful for women going through menopause in a number of ways:

  1. Hot flashes and night sweats: Reflexology can help to improve circulation and regulate body temperature, which may reduce the frequency and intensity of hot flashes and night sweats.

  2. Insomnia: Many women going through menopause experience difficulty sleeping. Reflexology can help to promote relaxation and reduce stress, which may improve sleep quality.

  3. Mood swings and anxiety: Reflexology can be a relaxing and calming therapy that helps to reduce stress and anxiety, which can be helpful for women experiencing mood swings and emotional disturbances during menopause.

  4. Hormonal imbalances: Reflexology can stimulate the endocrine system, which may help to regulate hormonal imbalances that can occur during menopause.

  5. Pain and discomfort: Women going through menopause may experience joint pain, headaches, and other physical discomforts. Reflexology can help to relieve pain and tension in the body, promoting relaxation and reducing discomfort.

Overall, reflexology may be helpful in managing the physical and emotional symptoms of menopause, promoting relaxation, and improving overall wellbeing. However, it is important to note that reflexology should be used as a complementary therapy alongside other treatments and lifestyle changes to manage menopause symptoms. Women should consult with a qualified reflexologist and their healthcare provider to determine if reflexology is appropriate for them and to develop a comprehensive treatment plan.
